I AM RAY RUSLI JR.

Born in Indonesia and having spent part of my childhood in Singapore and Australia, Berlin has been home for the past years.

The professional journey started in fashion retail, with COS and Dolce & Gabbana, and gradually moved through international store operations and expansion across Europe and Asia. Those years brought plenty of different people, cultures and situations — and taught some valuable lessons about staying curious, keeping things simple and getting things done when circumstances change.

​

A growing interest in understanding why businesses make the decisions they do eventually led to Business Intelligence and consulting. At bdg | better decisions group, projects for companies such as Zalando, REWE and Siemens Energy brought a different perspective: working with data and technology while trying not to lose sight of the people and business questions behind them.

​

More recently, the connection to Indonesia has become an important part of the journey again. Through PT. Harapan Kurnia Textile Indonesia, there has been an opportunity to work closer to Indonesian manufacturing and European market development. Through Pasar Hamburg, that connection has expanded into discovering and developing Indonesian brands, MSMEs, designers and producers with potential for the European market.

Along the way, AI Business Consulting training at IU Academy added another layer of curiosity around how technology might be used in a practical and meaningful way.

Perhaps the common thread through all of these chapters is a simple interest in people, businesses, markets and how they connect — whether that means making sense of data, improving an operation, developing a market or bringing two different worlds a little closer together.

​

There is still a lot to learn, and that is probably what makes the journey interesting.

​

Outside of work, life is usually a mix of CrossFit, Jivamukti Yoga, travelling and discovering new places. CrossFit keeps me moving, while Jivamukti gives me a chance to slow down and stay grounded. More than 40 countries so far, with plenty still left to explore.
